'm a former aupair , I worked in the USA for 2 and half years (2019 -2021) , in that time i completed 3 successful contracts. In 2019 I took care of 3 kids in the beautiful Washington state, at the time they were a 1y/o boy, a 3 y/o boy and a 6 years old girl, my schedule was rough , I worked 3 to 4 days a week mainly when the mom worked , and the days were long totaling 12 to 15h a day, as mom works in the medical field and had worked a lot. I spent my year with them and then choose to leave as the routine wasn’t sustainable for me by the end of the year. With them I was responsible for breakfast lunch , snacks and dinner, laundry and dishes and back and forth from school / day care plus extra curricular activities .
In 2020 i remained in Washington but worked for a family with a brand new baby, Baby B was shy of 3 months old when i got to their house, my year with them even with covid around flew by, i was responsible for feeds and diaper changes, naps , laundry, i also was the one every month to take her clothes out of the closet when she had outgrew a outfit , and restock diepers and baby food, when she started sitting i would take her out on walks and parks , to the beach she loved being outside , she was a very happy baby , would wave people and smile. she gave her first steps with me, she understood Portuguese and english by the time my year with them was ending . My schedule with them was 7am to 5pm monday to friday, in that time we traveled , did home renovations together and i organized their entire house from top to bottom. the parents were very adventurous and fun and our relationship was great, they even nominated me for aupair of the year ,which always make me emotional to remember .
The aupair program in the usa is normally only 2 years, but because of covid they extended the stay ( to a extra 6 months) for au pairs that were leaving in order to minimize transit , so given the extraordinary opportunity i found a family in the other cost of the country and in feb 2021 i moved to Virginia for my last contract .
My experience in VA was very unusual , I had to sign a NDA so i can’t go much into detail, but what I can say is that at the time they were two kids, a girl 9 months old and boy 2 years old, and for the first 3 months there my schedule was 7am to 5pm and we would stay mostly at the house and play in the basement , walk around the neighborhood and once a week go to the park, after the 3 month mark the host family got a second au pair and the schedule got split and we only worked 3 days a week each.
As a former aupair in the USA I'm here to make the daily life a bit easier on the parents , support and care for their kids. I have a bachelor degree in design so i can be artsy and very creative which makes arts and crafts a lot of fun 🙂
I'm currently not in Germany, but my plan is to take the leap, use my EU citizenship and go live with my brother there.
Thanks for your time , reading this, I hope you can consider me but if not thanks for reading 🙂
