I have previously looked after my neighbours two little boys who were 5 and 8, some afternoons I would pick them up from school and walk them home which was around a 10 minute walk. Once we arrived home I would make them a snack and sometimes dinner, I would then help them with homework, draw with them, play along with their various games and get them into their pyjamas. Occasionally I would be asked to look after the children on a weekend which I was very happy to do as I could do more activities and spend more time getting to know them. For the past year I have been working with a 7 year old boy who I’ve grown very close to, we partake in similar activities as I did with the other two boys but spent much more time together, I this can range from going to the cinema together or being there for his emotional needs when he needs to talk to someone.

Watching a child grow and learn because of my care is so fulfilling and unique, so few jobs give the same satisfaction that I am doing good and helping people. Not only do you help the child develop but also help the parents. One of my favourite aspects of the job is that no day is the same and the role taken in this child’s life is forever changing and bonds become stronger, the unexpected nature of the job can be challenging but no other role I have found is quite as rewarding. As I wish to be a teacher one day this seems like the clear next step in learning as much as possible about what it takes to understand and work with kids and it truly is my passion.

Whilst living in London I joined KoruKids which is a nannying company which less than 10% of applicants are accepted into. A mother I used to babysit for described me as ‘a fantastic, kind person [who] would be a great candidate’. During Koru Kids training I was described as ‘a sociable people person at training.’
