I’m a mature age individual who has been living abroad for nine years independently. Originally born and raised in Australia, I am a natural native English speaker. I hold a TESL 120 hour certificate and have taught English over one Summer in Malta and my students ranged from a small class of 5 years old, to a full class of teens and a duo of older adults.
Being the ‘cool aunt’ to five children aged between 2 – 11 also lends to a wealth of experience and memorable moments.
In my spare time I am a writer and film director, with my own company based in Europe. Cooking delicious meals, being part of the arts community, walking / exploring new places, napping and playing with my cat and reading are all part of what I enjoy doing when I am not working.
In Australia I was also a house sitter for a decade, being responsible for other people’s homes and pets was a rewarding period in my life.
What I can bring to you and your family, and of course your child’s world is an understanding nature, patience and my own curiosity and an empathetic approach to dealing with children with varied needs and experiences .
From teaching children and caring for my young nieces and nephews I’ve learnt you need to engage with each child in an individual way, as each child has different emotional needs and ways of grasping new information, such as a new language or skillset.
Sometimes children are more closed off to strangers, often they are warm instantly, understanding how to deal with both situations helps break the ice and build trust. Children get bored easily and I have a natural instinct to detect that and I am always quick to improvise and find ways to change this by focusing on what I have observed and what is keeping them engaged, while ensuring our activities remain fun, engaging and safe.
I have a car and a valid drivers licence, plus I am close to the train station and look forward to building my nanny portfolio and references while meeting wonderful families in Berlin.
